Former National and Berbice Under-19 player Khemraj Mahadeo produced a fine all round performance to lead Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets to an easy 8-wicket victory over Young Warriors in the final of the New Amsterdam Lions Club 50th Anniversary Fifteen15 tournament. Playing at the Cumberland Ground and witnessed by a large and colourful crowd, Mahadeo took 4 wickets for 13 runs from 3 overs before returning with the bat to hit a magnificent 67 not out from just 33 balls to lead his team to the title.
Young Warriors batting first after losing the toss rattled up an impressive 140 off 14.3 of their allotted 15 overs with Kevin Ramdeen 53 (7×6 1×4) his brother National opener Richard Ramdeen 31 (2×6 3×4) and Linden Austin 18 being the main contributors.
Bowling for Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets, Khemraj Mahadeo 4 for 13, Renwick Batson 4 for 24 and Clinton Pestano 2 for 34.
Needing to score 141 the visitors were given a flying start from Renwick Batson and Clinton Pestano of 46 in 5 overs before Pestano was caught by Linden Austin off the bowling of Balram Samaroo for 20 (2×6 2×4).
The winning Rose Hall Town G&G Team pose with their silverware along with members of both Lions Clubs.
Mahadeo and Batson then added 42 in 4.3 overs before Batson was caught at long on by Richard Ramdeen for a well played 35 (1×6 3×4). National player Delbert Hicks joined forces with Mahadeo and became a mere spectator to the ‘Khemraj Mahadeo show’ as the elegant right hander scored 36 runs of the 69 partnership they added for the 3rd wicket.
Mahadeo blasted 5 huge sixes and 8 classic boundaries to be undefeated on 67, while Hicks was 6 not out as Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets ended the game at 146 for 2 in 12.3 overs. Anil Beharry and Balram Samaroo took one wicker each Young Warriors.
Earlier in the day Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets defeated Memorex Bermine in the semifinal by 82 runs. Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets batted first and reached 126 for 7 of their 15 overs with Clinton Pestano 25, Eon Hooper 20 and Delbert Hicks 15 not out. West Indies female pacer Tremayne Smartt took 2 for 22 and off spinner Devon Clements 3 for 25 being the main wicket takers.
In reply Memorex Bermine were shot out for a meager 44 runs of 8.3 overs; only Keon De Jesus reached double figures (13) as Renwick Batson 3 for 5, Eon Hooper 2 for 2, Clinton Pestano 2 for 13 and Rajiv Ivan 2 for 23 bowled well for Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets.
Young Warriors had defeated Albion in their semifinal by 4 wickets. Albion batting first chalked up 116 for 8 off 15 overs while the home team reached 118 for 6 off 14.1 overs.
The Winning Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets received $40,000 and trophy, while Young Warriors took home $20,000.
