Browne, Forrester miss centuries, Legay bags 5-77
GCA’s Carib Beer, Heroes Cup cricket
Rawle Browne continued his fine form for Police with an unbeaten 95, while GCC’s Winston Forrester (91) also fell short of his century yesterday on the final day of the latest round of action in the Georgetown Cricket Association’s (GCA) Carib Beer, Heroes Cup two-day first division cricket competition.

Left-arm spinner Denis Legay also enjoyed a good day by bagging 5-77 for GDF against GCC as both second round matches ended in draws yesterday.
At GDF, GCC were ferociously chasing down the 99 from eight overs against GDF when bad light stopped play with the Bourda Boys, who took first innings points in the match, on 49-1 off six overs with Wasim Haslim unbeaten on 31 with three sixes and three fours.
GCC began the final day on 0-0 replying the GDF’s 203 and declared at 219-9 with teenager Forrester leading the way with 11 fours in his 91 before he hit leg-spinner Julio Johns to mid-wicket when nine away from his first ton at this level.
Skipper Robin Bacchus (14) was taken at point at 38-1 off Legay who also removed Jeetendra Sookdeo (5) 10 runs later.
Treon Forde (36), Tyrell Tull (18 with 2 sixes and a six) and Raj Nanan (19 with 2 sixes) also chipped in towards the end as Legay, a former National under-15 spinner, got support from Shemroy Barrington (2-61) and Jones (2-4) for GDF.
GDF were then bowled out for 113 as only National under-19 Opener Kevin Boodie (28) and Marcus Watkins (20) passed 15 as Nanan followed up his 4-36 in the first innings with 4-15 and Gavin Singh had 2-9. GCC’s explosive run-chase was then halted by the weather conditions after Barrington removed Bacchus.
At Eve Leary, the 33-year-old Browne, who only last season scored four centuries at this level in addition to good work behind the stumps, again staked a claim for some attention from the local selectors by stroking seven fours and three sixes in his innings before he ran out of partners when Police, replying the Everest’s 181, were bowled out for 228.

After Troy Benn (34) edged Phillip Persaud to the Keeper at 54-1 and Ryan Rajmangal (32) top-edged an injudicious swipe to slip off Christopher Surat at 66-2, Browne and Shameer Fazal (13) added 63 for the third wicket before Surat (3-36) got rid of Fazal.
Cecil Adams chipped in with 29 before he fell to Skipper Troy Gonsalves 203-6 and Rasheed (3-64) picked up two quick wickets to hasten the end for Police.
Chris Patandin threw his bat around in an unbeaten 32 with four fours and a six as Everest reached 56-1 when bad light stopped play.
Joseph Perry (11) was caught behind in the first over from left arm pacer Randy Knights at 39-1, but Patandin playing a mixture of elegant drives and ugly swipes, tore into the new ball pair of Trevon Benn and Keiko Gurrick who failed to trouble the batsmen on a slow two-paced track in fading light.
Meanwhile, President of the GCA Roger Harper stressed that players reportedly leaving their first division teams during games to play soft-ball cricket is not going unnoticed and said that players and clubs found guilty of this practice could be penalized. (Sean Devers)
