National junior athlete Melisa Byass shines
Tutorial Academy Secondary School was declared the winner when the New Amsterdam/Canje District
(15) held their Annual Track, Field and Cycling Championships on Friday at the Edinburgh Ground East Bank Berbice.
At the end of the day’s events TASS was way out front with 752 points in the nine school competition. Although not having any dominant athlete the school earned their points through consistency, by ensuring they have athletes in, if not all, most of the events.
Their closest rival Berbice Educational Institute (BEI) had accumulated 690 points with Vryman’s Erven Secondary (VESS) Third with 618 points, New Amsterdam Multilateral Secondary fourth 511. The other places were occupied by Berbice High School (BHS) fifth 379, New Amsterdam Technical Institute (NATI) sixth 317, Canje Secondary School (CSS) seventh 203, School of the Nations eight 124 and Overwinning ninth with 47points.
National Junior Athlete Melissa Byass running for BEI was in destructive form as she romped away with the 400M, 800M and 1500M in convincing fashion to be crowned female champion.
Treshanie Cort of NATI was also outstanding among the U20 females. Among the males Kefa Schultz of VESS was the most outstanding on show.
