Gros Islet, St Lucia – Host Guyana has been paired with Gandhi Youth Organization for the Super Club Assistance Programme during the Regional Super50 Tournament in Guyana.
The random draw for the pairing of the clubs with the respective teams took place at the WICB Board of Directors meeting in St Lucia.
The random draw was done by President Julian Hunte, Vice President Dave Cameron and Directors Clive Lloyd, Sir Hilary Beckles, Clifford Reis, Condi Riley and Milton Henry.
GCB President and Secretary and WICB Directors Ramsay Ali and Anand Sanasie along with other Directors observed the draw.
For every victory registered by a team that team’s partner club will receive GY$100,000 (US$500) from the WICB.
Even more, for every six hit by any batsman on a team, that team’s partner club will receive US$50. And for every wicket taken via the ‘bowled’ route by any bowler on a team will see that club’s partner team receives US$50.
The WICB will tally the victories, sixes and bowled wickets and the clubs will receive their funds at the end of the tournament.
If a team plays unbeaten throughout the tournament the partner club will claim as much as GY$500,000 (US$2500) just for the victories alone. Clubs will receive more for the sixes and bowled wickets. A modest projection is that a team will earn between GY$60,000 and GY$100,000 (US$300 and US$500) per match for sixes and bowled wickets.
The initiative will continue in future editions of the Super50 when local clubs in the host venue will be identified for similar benefits.
The Regional Super50 bowls off in Guyana on October 19th and the final is slated for October 29th. The semi-finals and final will be broadcast live on ESPN.
