Fourteen year-old Javina Sampson stamped her authority in the sprint triple at the North Georgetown Zone 2 Inter-Schools Track Championships held on Wednesday last at the Police Sport Club Ground, Eve Leary.
Sampson, who will be representing Guyana at the Inter-Guiana Games in Suriname next week, upstaged her rivals in the 200m and 400m to claim two ease victories in her category.
The middle distance athlete also won the girl’s U-14 100m ahead Kaesia Munroe.
Arinze Chance and Shaquan Daniel outsprinted their opponents in the three popular sprint races to qualify for the North Zone Champion of Champion which is slated for today.
Chance took the 100m in 11.6 seconds while Daniels and Sampson won theirs in 12.9 and 12.8 seconds respectively.
Former Under-15 cricketer, Kareem Naughton was unable to catalog two consecutive wins in the sprints. Naughton topped his group (U-18) in the 100m boys clocking 11.5 seconds which was the fastest time for the day in the sprinting zone. Kheon Evans came out victorious in the Under-20 category as well.
Evans of Bishops’ High School qualified for the next round of the competition in the boy’s 200m after the crowd’s favourite Neil Gordon was disqualified. He also won the 400m and 800m.
Gordon, who had already won the boy’s Under-20 long and high jumps at the Inter-Zone Championships, will be seeking to blow away his rivals in the boy’s 100m at the Track Championships today.
The athletes that will be representing Zone 2 at the Inter-Zone Championships are as follows:
100m U-20 boys: Neil Gordon, Jerry DaSilva; 100m U-20 girls: Cherise Dowd; Abiola Gillis.
100m U-18 boys: Kareem Naughton, Darien Best; 100m U-18 girls: Denisa McIntyre, Keisha Clinton.
100m U-16 boys: Arinze Chance, Travon Sertimar; 100m U-16 girls: Shaquan Daniels, Abigail Thornill. 100m U-14 boys: Micheal Morrison, Timon Blake; 100m U-14 girls: Javina Sampson, Kaesia Munroe. 100m U-12 boys: Elson Charles, Tryesse Souvenir; 100m U-12 girls: Serina Grandison, Alicia Parks.
200m U-20 boys: Kheon Evans, Osafo Barton; 200m U-20 girls: Tenisa Arthur, Latonia Forde.
200m U-18 boys: Jamal Joseph, Kareem Naughton; 200m U-18 girls: Denisa McIntyre, Kesha Clinton. 200m U-16 boys: Arinze Chance, Trevon Sertimar; 200m U-16 girls: Shaquan Daniels, Onika Rose. 200m U-14 boys: Christol Fortune, Shamar Case; 200m U-14 girls: Javina Sampson, Avon Samuels.
200m U-12 boys: Tryesse Souvenir, Elson Charles; 200m U-12 girls: Makasi Bovill, Serena Grandison. 400m U-20 boys: Kheon Evans, Travis Glasglow; 400m U-20 girls: Athena Gaskin, Candy Moore. 400m U-18 boys: Stevon Nogebra, Anfernee Bowman; 400m U-18 girls: Keisha Clinton, Lisa Saul.
400m U-16 boys: Arinze Chance, Tevon Sertima; 400m U-16 girls: Shaquan Daniels, Onika Rose. 400m U-14 boys: Trevon Troyte, Kadeem Blackman; 400m U-14 girls: Javina Sampson; Avon Samuels. 400m U-12 boys: Emmanuel Barker, Tyrese Tanner; 400m U-12 girls: Serena Grandison, Alicia Parks.
1500m U-20 boys: Randy Hodge, Stephan Bodoo; 1500m U-20 girls: Christina Thomas, Shamus James. \1500m U-18 boys: Levi Mitchell, Gavin Singh; 1500m U-18 girls: Renana Richmond, Anaynesa Cummings.
