Lima defeated Gunners by 3 wickets to win the New Building Society 40 overs cricket competition when the final of that tournament concluded at Lima, North Essequibo on Sunday morning last.
Early morning showers delayed the match and when play was possible the organisers decided to shave off 10 overs from the initial amount. Gunners called correctly and opted for first strike. Led by a brilliant half century from former National Under-19 player, Herelle Green (54), which included 4 fours and 2 lofty sixes and sterling knocks from Rovendra Parsram whose 43 was decorated with 3 sixes and 4 fours and Hemant Beharry (19), Gunners amassed 188 before they were bowled out in 29.1 overs. Subash Maipaul (2-30 off 6 overs) and Nimron Bahadur (2-43 from 6) were the pick of the bowlers for the host
Devendra Lall (36) and Bahadur (31) combined to steer Lima to victory with that team eventually scoring 190-7 in 29.1 overs. Beharry compiled figures of 2-16 off 6 overs while Gordon emulated with 2-25 from 6 overs. Bahadur received the man of the match award while Mark Tyrell of Gunners was the competition’s leading bowler. Keron Seenarine of Richmond was the best batsman in the tournament.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the North Essequibo Cricket Committee, Prince Holder, assisted in the presentation of prizes and seized the opportunity to congratulate both teams for reaching the final. He further encouraged the players to take the game seriously even as he thanked the sponsors for their chivalry.
Lima won the New Building Society 40 over cricket competition when they defeated Gunners by 3 wickets in the final played last Sunday at Lima in North Essequibo.
In a match which was reduced to 30 overs due to rain Gunners batted first in front of a vocal crowd and made 188 before they were bowled out in 29.1 overs.
Former National u-19 player Herelle Green led with an attractive 54 (2×6, 4×4) while Rovendra Parsram scored 43 (3×6, 4×4) and Hemant Beharry 19.
Subash Maipaul with 2-30 off 6 overs and Nimron Bahadur 2-43 from 6 were the pick of the bowlers for the host.

Beharry claimed 2-16 off 6 overs and Neilson Gordon 2-25 from 6. Bahadur received the man of the match award while both finalist were given trophies and cash incentives.
