The Tenelec Inc First Division Berbice 50-Overs Cricket Competition continued last Saturday with four s
eventh round matches and a severely depleted Albion, without six of their regular players defeated Memorex Bermine by six wickets as Test left-hander Narsingh Deonarine led the way with an attractive 52 and national under-19 left arm spinner Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai took 5-23 for the Corentyne side.
West Indies leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo and national left arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul (both overseas on WICB duties), former Test batsman Sewnarine Chattergoon and Guyana t/20 player Jonathan Foo (encamped with the Guyana 50-over team) and the two other Chattergoon brothers (Ramnarine and Harrinarine) were all missing for Albion for their clash at the Edinburgh ground.
But Motie-Kanhai grabbed 5-23 from 9.2 overs to restrict Memorex Bermine to 198 as Keion De Jesus 62 with 8 fours led the way for the New Amsterdam team.
After Doodnauth Lallbeharry (24) departed at 65-1, Guyana Under-19 batsman Kandasammy Surujnarine with 65 and Deonarine 52 with 1 four and 2 sixes joined forces and put on 110 for the 2nd wicket to help Albion to a comfortable victory.
Skeldon Community Centre’s offspinner Mahendra Bhola picked up 4 for47 from 6 Overs but Young Warriors reached 240 all out with Guyana Under-19 cricketer Linden Austin slamming a 64-ball 68 which included 9 fours. Austin then came back with his off-spin to take 2 for 0 from 1.2 Overs to help dismiss Skeldon for 163.
Another off-spinner, Bhojnarine Persaud, took 4 for 24 from 7.1 Overs to help Port Mourant Karibee Rice bowl out Blairmont Community Centre for a paltry 100 before Port Mourant, in reply lost their first wicket with just two runs on the board.
However, former West Indies Under-19 and Ex Berbice batsman Roopnarine Ramgobin (37 n.o.), playing his first match in over three years, put on 45 for the 2nd wicket with Mahendra Veerasammy (18) and then featured in an unbroken 54 run 3rd wicket stand with Shastri Persaud (38 n.o) to see Port Mourant Karibee Rice to an 8-wicket win.
Fourteen year old debutant all-rounder Leon Andrews, bowling off-spin took 4 for 44 to help Police restrict West Berbice to 137. Police’s joy were however short lived as veteran off-spinner Dennis Webster with 3 for 0 from 2 Overs, Berbice offspinner Krishnadat Ramoo with 3 for 21 from 7 Overs and medium pacer Keith Fraser with 2 for 27 from 9 Overs, skittled them out for 60 in 24 Overs.

At Edinburgh, Albion Community Centre beat Memorex Bermine by 6 wickets. Memorex Bermine losing the toss and choosing to bat first made 198 all out in 44.2 Overs with Keion De Jesus 62, Guyana Under-19 cricketer Joemal la Fleur 33, and Ishwar Singh 29.

At Cumberland, Young Warriors beat Skeldon Community Centre by 77 runs. In the match reduced to 40 -Overs-a-side due to the late arrival of Skeldon because of transportation difficulties, Young Warriors made 240 in 34.1 Overs with Linden Austin 68, Berbice Under-19 all-rounder Kevin Ramdeen 39, Vedesh Singh 27, Rocky Beepat 27 and former Berbice all-rounder Anil Beharry 21.
Bowling for Skeldon Mahendra Bhola had 4 for 47 and medium pacer Gajendra Nauth 2 for 54 from 8 Overs. Skeldon Community Centre 163 in 36.2 Overs with Gajendra Nauth 45 and Gary Phillips 20. Bowling for Young Warriors, Linden Austin took 2 for 0, off-spinner Kevin Ramdeen 2 for 28 from 8 Overs, left-arm spinner Beharry 2 for 32 from 7 Overs.
Fifty-five-year-old former Guyana First-Class player Hubern Evans, who along with 54-year-old former Test off-spinner Clyde Butts are the oldest first division players in Guyana, captured 2 for 11 from 8 Overs
At Blairmont, Port Mourant Karibee Rice beat Blairmont by 8 wickets. With the match reduced to 45 Overs-a-side because of the late arrival of some members of the home team, Blairmount fell for 100 in 39.1 Overs with Deveshwari Prashad making 28 and Nick Ramsaroop 21.
Bhojnarine Persaud took 4 for 24 from 7.1 Overs while off-spinners Devendra Thakurdeen and Roopnarine Ramgobin took 2 for 16 from 8 Overs and 2 for 23 from 9 Overs respectively. Port Mourant Karibee Rice reached 101 for 2 in 31 Overs with Shastri Persaud unbeaten on 38 and Roopnarine Ramgobin undefeated on 37
At Bush Lot in West Berbice, West Berbice beat Police by 77 runs. In the match which was reduced to 45 Overs-a-side because of a late start due to preparation moisture in the pitch, West Berbice were bowled out for 137 in 33 Overs with former Guyana Under-19 all-rounder Sherwyn McPherson 32 and Krishnadat Ramoo 25.
Bowling for Police, Leon Andrews bagged 4 for 44, former Guyana Under-19 pacer Kellon Henry 2 for 26 and off-spinner Andel Doris 2 for 27 from 9 Overs.
The Lawmen were then fired out for 60 in 24 Overs with Webster claiming 3 for 0 from 2 Overs, Krishnadat Ramoo 3 for 21 from 7 Overs and Keith Fraser 2 for 27 from 9 Overs.
