Piari Landing attack…Second body identified as Laing Avenue resident

robbery has been positively identified as Gregory Isaacs of Laing Avenue, West Ruimveldt.
According to reports, the man was identified by his reputed wife, Sherry Lewis, of Berbice. Lewis said she last saw Isaacs about two weeks ago when she took their son for a visit.
“He calls every day to talk to his son and about two weeks ago we come to see him and we spend the day.” The woman said last week the police contacted her asking her to identify a body which was fished out of the Cuyuni River.
“They called me and I went, and the body I saw was Gregory own…and they did the paperwork.”
According to Lewis, Isaacs did “all sorts of work” including driving hire cars.
Two Sundays ago, five persons were wounded when a gang of armed bandits raided the gold mining community of Piari in the Puruni River. The intruders made off with about $30 million in cash and raw gold during a violent spree that lasted close to three hours.
The gang opened fire indiscriminately, while snatching valuables from terrified miners, many of whom were at the Piari Landing where a number of shops are located.
The men had also robbed several mining camps along the Puruni River, hours before the Piari Landing attack. During their getaway bid, however, the boat in which the men were travelling capsized after going over a waterfall.
Last week Tuesday the bodies of two men were found, while three others were captured by police. The bodies have since been identified as those of Aubrey Kingston and Gregory Isaacs. Kingston was said to have been the captain of the boat and was reportedly kidnapped

by the gunmen. He was found with his feet bound. A post mortem revealed that he died as a result of drowning while his body bore two gunshot wounds. On Wednesday, last, the police and army reportedly found the decomposing remains of two other men. According to reports, the men were buried at a location up the Cuyuni River.
