Dear Editor,
I saw Mr Kumar attempted a feeble and lame excuse why the Guyana Female Team will not be attending the Inter Guyana Games, blaming the GFF, his usual stance.
I do not know Mr Kumar personally, but I have acquaintances who know him well.
Mr Kumar decision to pull out the females shows lack of direction and discrimination. The Ethics committee should investigate him. Women Sports is suffering in Guyana and when the government can deny 18 of its young females, which comprises of Amerindians, Indians, Africans, Chinese, Portuguese and Dougla, (the Female U-17 National Team also had a European) a mixture of all the races, then what else will they do. This was and would have been the only true GUYANESE team to leave these shores.
Mr Minister of Sports and Mr PS, Min of Sports, were you guys aware of this sinister move by Mr Kumar to deny Guyana the opportunity to win the female football, is this move contributing to the development of sports. Is this tantamount to sabotage. Is this move trying to derail the GFF in its effort to push women’s football?
Remember the Lady Jags; the government feted them, was this because they were all based overseas from developed country. If the government continues to deprive their young talent the opportunity to blossom then we are not doing business. The Ministry has to be revamped and the right persons should be put in the correct position.
It is time the Director of Sports not be a political person and he or she should be free from Political Intervention, Guyana have many intelligent past sports stars who can fill that position admirably and do a better job than the present Director.
Guyana lost a golden opportunity to stamp our authority; we will be going into the games with minus points due to our no show. Anyhow I wish the other teams all the best and hope that this trip be a fruitful one and not as stressful as past ones.
On Nov 29th we should have a new Director of Sports regardless of the results of the National Elections, take note to those who has the power.
