-father detained
Police were last night investigating a gruesome double killing at Coverden, East Bank Demerara, in which a 34-year-old father went berserk and slaughtered two of his children in their beds.
The bodies of 10-year-old Belika, and her four year-old brother were discovered at around 22:00 hrs in their home. A third child, six-year-old Joy Blanchard, was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital with wounds to the head and other parts of the body.
Kaieteur News understands that the children’s father, identified as John Blanchard, has been detained.
An aunt told Kaieteur News that relatives were informed of the tragedy after receiving a call at around 21:30 hrs. They rushed to the Coverden home where they discovered the bodies of the two siblings lying in their beds, with the badly injured sibling nearby.
The bodies were taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre.
Staff at the hospital worked frantically on the survivor, six-year-old Joy Blanchard, before having her transferred to the GPHC.
While the aunt said that she had no idea about the motive, Kaieteur News was told that the suspect was furious at the children’s mother for travelling to the interior. Reports indicate that he had threatened to kill the children if the mother made the journey.
The mother is said to be at Mahdia.
