Work Force of the Vibert stable and ridden by Daniel Flores put in a workmanlike performance to win the feature G class event and the $250,000 top prize and Banks DIH trophy when the Bush Lot United Turf Club on Sunday last held another successfully one day horserace meet at the club’s track, Bush Lot, West Coast Berbice.
A fair size crowd was on hand to witness the second meet organized by the club in its resuscitation effort.
Six races were held on the day with Work Force winning the feature ‘I’ class 1400M event from Top of the Line over 5 ½ furlong. Prospectors Pride of the Jumbo Jet stable with Jamaican Jockey Andron Findley on the mount was too good for the competition as it raced away with winning $120,000 top prize in the H class 1200M race and the Phagoo General Store trophy from Sir Balajie.
Royal Time of The N. David sable with Jockey B. Semple in the saddles was declared the winner in the I class 1200M event after eventual winner Prospectors Pride was disqualified for carrying less weight than stipulated and running out of its class. The win was worth $100,000 and Trophy compliments of GT&T. Pinky and natural Mystic were thus elevated.
Pinky of the Robin Stable won the I3 race over 1000M ahead of Natural Mystic, Flying Object and Pleasant Surprise for the $100,000 top prize and trophy compliments of Solid Gold and GT&T.
There were no surprises in the J&K and lower 1000M event as Pleasant Surprise of the Webster Stable won with ease to carry away the $80,000 top money and the Chen Singh trophy. She is Royal, MacGyver and Valentino lost their royalty and could produce no tricks and occupied the other positions.
The Group 1 race over 1000M was taken by Gangster ridden by N. Alli as it secured the top spot ahead of Mr. Brakes, Reverse and Shivannie.
Jockey Andron Findley was the champion jockey on show.
The fund raising event was held to help raise funds for the resuscitation of the race track. (Samuel Whyte)
