The inaugural Trophy Stall sponsored West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) Under-17 league is set for an enthralling climax today at the Den Amstel Community Centre Ground when arch rivals Uitvlugt and home team Den Amstel clash in the final game of the tournament.
This match will decide the championship winner and despite the fact that Den Amstel are poised to take the title on 15 points as opposed to Uitvlugt’s 12, fans are in for a ding dong tussle between players who are eager to see their respective villages lay claim to bragging rights for the next year as the best in the West.
Den Amstel enjoys a better goal difference of +21 to Uitvlugt’s +12 with the showdown between the two leading goal scorers on opposing sides expected to be a mouth watering spectacle.
The home team will be led by Andre Hector who has blasted the nets on 14 occasions in 5 games while
Uitvlugt’s Delon Lanferman has accounted for 11 of his side’s 20 goals also in 5 matches.
While the strikers will be aiming to have their way, the respective defensive quartets will be hoping to nullify their respective rivals.
The penultimate game of the League will see Young Achievers taking on Wales in a bottom of the table clash and this game too is promising to be a keen match-up with neither team wanting to end at the bottom.
In latest results, Uitvlugt banged Stewartville 4-0 behind a double from Lanferman in the 33rd and 49th minute. Mark Evelyn and Dyron Giddings accounted for the other goals.
Den Amstel continued their rampage with another resounding result, a 7-0 whipping of Eagles. Hector maintained his fine form with another brace (11, 42), Allister Lynch also tucked in two goals (17, 49) with one each off the boot of Omari Haynes (16), Kester Dundas (40) and Gavin Graham 55th minute.
Kick off time today is 13:30hrs.
