Former Fruta Conquerors and national Futsal player Lester ‘Puppy’ Peters died last Wednesday at the tender age of 37 years following a brief illness, at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Peters, who was a leading player for the Fruta Conquerors Football Club was an outstanding midfielder with the club he joined in 1986 and played an instrumental role in leading them to numerous competition titles during his tenure at the club.
According to founder member Wayne St. Jules, Peters was one of those players who always sought to give guidance to his fellow teammates and was instrumental in nurturing the careers of many who’ve since gone on to represent the club at both the junior and senior levels as well as Guyana.
“Lester was one of those members of the club who I never saw get angry at anyone, but was always willing to share his knowledge of the sport to everyone and that feature is what will always stand out for me as a fellow club mate of his,” St. Jules told this newspaper.
Peters was also a former employee of Food for the Poor and Guyana Beverage Company and the club has arranged to host one night of the wake in his memory on Tuesday evening at the Tucville ground.
St. Jules said that persons interested in making a contribution to the cause could contact him on Telephone #624-2944 of Head Coach Sampson Gilbert on 682-6416.
The club has also planned a match that will feature past and present players, while friends of the late Peters will be allowed to participate in the match in memory of his contribution to the sport.
