Carib Beer/Heroes Cup cricket…Haslim hits robust century, 5-wkt hauls for Nanan & Ferrier

GCC left-hander Wasim Haslim hit a robust 113 against Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC), while left-arm spinner Raj Nanan and all-rounder Deon Ferrier captured five-wicket hauls yesterday in the second round of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Carib Beer/Heroes Cup two-day first division cricket competition.
At DCC, Haslim smashed the ball to all parts of the small ground as he lashed 11 fours and seven sixes in his 128-run first wicket stand with Ricardo Jaggernauth (42) before GCC slumped from 190-3 to 218 all out.

Ferrier grabbed 5-62 from 14.5 overs of off-spin and got support from former National under-15 skipper Shaquelle Williams (3-10) and former Guyana t20 player Orin Forde (2-34) for MSC who ended the opening day on 226-7 to clinch first innings points.
The 31-year-old Ferrier, who played nine Regional one-day games for Guyana from January 7th 2007 but none since November 2008, returned with the bat to hit an accomplished unbeaten 86, decorated with eight fours and four sixes after Kwame Crosse (25) and Kellon Carmichael (44) had put together 52 for the first wicket for MCS.
After Carlos LaRose (14) was leg before to 18-year-old Nanan at 72-2, Danny Narayan (37) added 38 for the third wicket with Carmichael before Carmichael was bowled by Jaggernauth at 110-3.
Narayan was then caught and bowled at 174-4 by Nanan who seemed lucky to have Skipper Orin Forde trapped LBW for a first ball duck without addition to the score.
Nanan whose previous best at this level was 6-42 against Enterprise then picked up two more quick wickets before Ferrier, who remained unbeaten to the end, saw his team to first innings points. Nanan ended with 5-39 from 21 impressive overs.
Earlier, Robin Bacchus (21) and Gavin Singh (24) were the only GCC batsmen to reach double figures after the openers departed.
At Eve Leary, GDF wasted a 70-run opening start from first-class player Shemroy Barrington (44) and Paul Castello (44) as two of the soldiers were missing in action resulting in the Army playing with just nine men against Police and making 198-8 innings closed.
After Barrington hit a full toss from the 18-year-old London to deep mid wicket, National under-19 opener Kevin Boodie was run out for 39 at 118-2 before Castello fell to Keiko Gorrick at 134-3.
Marcus Watkins and Ameer Khan both made 22 before falling in quick succession as leg-spinner London got rid of the last two batsmen to finish with 4-44.

Rajmangal (23) added 53 for the first wicket before Rajmangal was caught and bowled Khan, but once Rawle Browne (38) departed after putting on 29 with Jason Heyliger (14) for the fifth wicket, the innings went into decline.
Off-spinner Randy Lindore (3-37), Khan (3-37) and Barrington (2-42) did the damage with the ball for the soldiers to keep them in the fight going into the final day today.
