A former employee of the Advisory Committee on Broadcasting (ACB) was on Tuesday brought to the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing from the company $2,545,415.
Joy Carr-Benn was charged with larceny by servant or clerk when she appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
It is alleged that between July 2006 and May 2009 while employed at the institution, Benn stole the sum of money by making out cheques to persons who, when investigated, did not exist.
Advice was sought and the matter was subsequently reported to the police. The court was told that the woman had been co-operating with police.
Benn who was not required to plead was placed on $300,000 bail and ordered to return to court on November 30.
