Over the past months, Edmond DeClou’s activities in the boxing ring and more particularly on the ProAm boxing cards have endeared him to boxing buffs and many have opined that the Lindener can tangle with the best local talent available. Some have even suggested that he is better than former European champion and world rater Howard ‘Battersea Bomber’ Eastman.
The organizers of the ProAm boxing card will attempt to put all speculation at rest when DeClou comes up against Eastman over 12 rounds for the local middleweight encounter in a special boxing card dubbed ‘Thirst Park Explosion,’ slated for the Banks DIH Thirst Park ground on October 29 next.
If DeClou (2nd right sitting) gets his way, Eastman (extreme right standing) may not be smiling at the end of their title bout. The other pugilists affix their signatures to their contracts while former world champion, Wayne Braithwaite (2nd right standing) strikes a pose.
The two boxers convened at Abdools and Abdools Insurance Brokers, Avenue of the Republic yesterday afternoon and scrawled their signatures on the dotted lines and as usual there were caustic exchanges. DeClou said that he was honoured to share the same ring with Eastman. The lanky pugilist from Linden was however adamant that his awe for the former European champion was restricted to outside the ring since he will exit as the victor.
Eastman, for his part simply promised to put up a good show and urged his fans to come out in their numbers to witness the bout.
Pauline London has chalked up several victories of recent and has brashly called out Gwendolyn ‘Stealth Bomber’ O’Neil to put her WIBA heavyweight title on the line. Her voice has also pitched and the organizers have finally persuaded the two pugilists to sign the dotted lines for a heavyweight shindig over 10 rounds for that accolade. O’Neil is currently preparing for the bout in Brooklyn NY but London did not spare her from several caustic and outlandish predictions. “This will be fireworks!” she blurted when asked of her intentions.
Meanwhile, several other bouts will make up the card including Iwan Azore and Troy Lewis who will go after each other in an 8 rounds middleweight affair. Fans would remember oh so well the last bout between these two which ended in an after the bell brawl including kicks and cuffs. Boxing board officials had meted out disciplinary measures and since then the two have nurtured a deep seated hatred for each other and were agitating for the return bout. One could only anticipate the slugfest in store.
Otherwise, Mandessa Moses returns to fistic duties, this time against Venezuelan, Anys Cedillo in a six round bout while Mark Austin would be seeking redemption after his humiliating loss to Revlon Lake, when he squares off with Jermaine King in a welterweight six rounder.
King will feel that he has the psychological advantage after securing a draw against Barbadian Miguel Antoine after the latter fighter had stopped Austin in the eleventh round of an earlier bout. However, Austin had defeated King in an earlier edition of the ProAm cards and has intimated that a replication of the decision is definitely on the cards.
Knockout artist, Simeon Hardy will also appear on the card in a four rounder against Barbadian Julian Taniff and he is also spouting confidence following his second round demolition of Winston Pompey last month.
Meanwhile, the organizers have intimated that there will be no amateur bouts on this card while the admission price moves to $2,500 for the inner ringside while the outer ringside will be $1,500.
