Ramcharitar Construction 1st Division 50-Over KO Competition in Berbice
Albion eked out an 8-run victory over home team Port Mourant in their rain affected semifinal of the Ramcharitar Construction Services First Division 50-Over Cricket Competition.
In their semifinal, which was played at the Port Mourant Ground and which had to be reduced to 25 Overs-a-side because of a late start due to overnight and morning showers, Albion took first strike after losing the toss and sent in to bat.
Already without the services of their West Indies legspinner Devendra Bishoo and national left arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul who are both overseas on duty for the W.I.C.B, Albion were further weakened by the absences of their recent national 50-Over selectees, former West Indies opening batsmen Sewnarine Chattergoon and Guyana 20/20 star batsman Jonathan Foo as well as former Guyana Under-19 batsman Harrinarine Chattergoon.
Albion had a start of 23 runs from national Under-19 batsman Kandasammy Surujnarine and Doodnauth Lallbeharry who was the first to go for 13. Former West Indies middle order batsman, Narsingh Deonarine joined Surujnarine and they put on 55 between them before Deonarine fell for 24. although Surujnarine put on 25 for the 3rd wicket with Hemendra Ramdial (15) before he was eventually run out for what turned out to be a match-winning 53 which included one four and one six.
Bowling for Port Mourant Karibee Rice pacer Yogendra Harrinarine took 2 for 24 from 4 Overs and former national player Andre Percival 2 for 31 from 5-Overs.
When Port Mourant began their run chase, they lost an early wicket with just 10 runs on the board but Shastri Persaud and Poorendra Dabidyal (6) put on 27 for the 2nd wicket before Persaud added 30 for the 3rd wicket with Sameer Khan (10) and 30 more for the fifth wicket with Percival (8) who fell with the score at 101 for 5 with 36 needed off 27 balls.
But then with 3 wickets falling including Persaud who made 61 to offspinner Deonarine for 10 runs in the next two overs, Port Mourant still needing 26 runs from 15 balls with 2 wickets standing and then 15 from the last over bowled by Gudakesh Motie.
But they could only muster six to end at 128 for 9 in their 25-overs as Deonarine took 3 for 23 from 5-overs, national Under-15 cricketer Sharaz Ramcharran 2 for 16 from 5-Overs and Motie 2 for 35 from 5-overs.
Albion Community Centre will now clash with Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets who drew a Bye after defeating Edinburgh in the second round. The date and venue for the final will be fixed shortly.
