Two friends are no longer on par after one assaulted the other.
Brought before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine Beharry yesterday, to answer the charge of unlawfully and maliciously wounding his former friend John Bishop, was Haslington Braithwaite.
The court was told that on September 21, last, Bishop was having some drinks with friends in a yard, when the defendant drove his motor car and parked it in front of the yard.
Braithwaite was reportedly told that he could not park his vehicle there, and as the prosecution declared, the driver asked Bishop if he wanted a story.
The court was told that the enraged man went to his vehicle and withdrew a cutlass. He returned to his former friend and dealt the man two chops, one to the neck and one to the arm. The matter was subsequently reported, and an investigation was conducted and Braithwaite was charged.
Braithwaite pleaded guilty, and then told the court that the incident did not play out as the prosecutor reported. The man proceeded to give his version of the altercation telling the court that he and the defendant were friends.
He said that on the day he came home and parked his car. He said that Bishop told him that he could not park his car in the location.
“I replied to the man” Braithwaite told the court, “saying you move it.” He added that Bishop picked up a piece of wood and dealt him a few lashes about the body. “I went back to my car and got out my cutlass and defended myself.”
The magistrate said that she would enter a not guilty plea. The man told the court that his actions were purely in self defence. The prosecution did not object to bail and Braithwaite was asked to post bail in the sum of $40,000.
