Carib Beer / Buddy’s Pool Hall ‘King of the 8 Ball’ competition
Vijay Sankar has emerged as ‘King of the 8 Ball’ Pool competition sponsored by Carib Beer and Buddy’s Pool Hall.
Sankar, one of the crowd favourites defeated Neil Ali in the final in the wee hours of Sunday morning last to walk away with a cheque for $150,000 the champion’s trophy and one case of Carib Beer for the next 12 months.
Ali did not leave empty handed as he pocketed $100,000 also received a trophy and will benefit from one case of Carib (monthly) for the next six months. In the battle for 3rd and 4th place, Sean De Souza got the better of Nazim Hector and was rewarded with $50,000, trophy and will receive one case of Carib for the next three months.
Hector too will benefit from a similar supply of Carib Beer; he received a trophy and $25,000 cash.
The pair of Sankar and Ali contesting the final did not come as a big surprise since the two had displayed excellent form throughout the competition.
The first game was without much effort by Vijay Sankar who showed that he was indeed the stronger of the 2. However Neil Ali was not backing down and did dig deep to find his ‘A’ game which caught Sankar by surprise. The final game had the crowd pressing forward as they cheered the players on.
Ali opened the game with a bang, taking the lead by 4 shots with the stripped ball, this of course did not fizzle Sankar who immediately got into top gear and dominated the game with the knowledge that the top prize was within range.
Sankar eventually emerged the best of the best along with bragging rights for the next year.
The third place encounter also produced a keen tussle.
