Months of rigid preparation would culminate with several exciting races when the Rising Sun Turf Club in collaboration with the True Friendship Society stages a grand one day fund raising horserace meet at the Club’s racetrack, Arima Park, Rising Sun West Coast Berbice, tomorrow starting at 13:00hrs.
Eight races are carded for the day with jockeys battling for a lucrative share of the more than $5.2M in cash, trophies and other prizes at stake. Turfites could anticipate a day filled with excitement since the organizers have promised more action packed events. Indeed, the horses are being pushed to readiness and over the last few days the volume of participants have increased from an initial 45 to more than 55 animals with several late entries anticipated.
Despite the fact that most of the bigger animals continue to recuperate after their hectic early part of the season, turfites could expect stiff competition in the E and Lower Class event over a distance of 1400M which carries a first prize of $500,000.
Other races include the event among the three years old over 1300M where Guyana and West Indies bred horses would face the starting lineup. The winner carts off $400,000. Then there is event for the two years old over 1100M that nets the first place finisher $300,000 plus the two year old race between Guyana bred animals also over 1100M for a winning stake of $200,000.
Other events are the G class race over 1300M for $220,000; the H class event over 1300M with a top prize of $200,000 and the ‘I’ class event over 1300M for the top prize of $180,000. The final event will match the I3 horses with only one or no wins for the day over a distance of 1100M. The winner of that race gallops off with $160,000.
Meanwhile, most of the established stables are rounding off preparations at their respective facilities and reports are that all of the animals are did good gallops earlier in the week. Naturally, picking winners will be a tedious task.
The horses from the Mahaica/Mahaicony areas were working out at reputable tracks in those areas while those from the Habibulla stables and the upper West Coast Berbice are working out at the facilities at the host venue. Animals coming out of the Jumbo Jet and Night Eyes racing stables are working out at the Bush Lot West Coast track while animals from the vastly improved Sheriff Racing Stable along with the Jagroop and Singh stables were impressive in gallops at the Norman Singh’s No 6 track.
Intense training activities were also being conducted on East Berbice at the Jagdeo and Rumor’s track as well as the Port Mourant race track. The animals competing out of the Elcock stables, the P&P Syndicate and the Crawford stables are working out at the Ryan Crawford facilities while the De Roop Simple Royal stable coupled with several other clubs were at the Bush Lot Corentyne track.
Animals from the Asrafalli stable on the upper Corentyne were utilizing the facilities at No68 village while a few other animals were at the Brighton race track.
Other ‘dark horses’ are utilizing other tracks around the Berbice area with an aim of creating a few upsets.
Organizer of the event, Fazal Habibulla intimated that his team is currently engaged in daily maintenance work on the turf in order to attain the best racing conditions.
Such activities include keeping the track moist as well as applying the heavy rollers. There would also be additional incentives for the champion jockey and champion trainer donated by the Trophy Stall, Bourda Market, and other corporate entities. Proceeds from the event will be donated towards charity.
