Low Income Settlements Programme…
After concerns were raised about the sloth with which the Ministry of Housing has been building “core houses” the Housing Ministry has blamed the contractor for not executing his duties.
This sloth was highlighted last Saturday under the caption “Mother of two frustrated at snail pace of Government Construction.” According to the Ministry of Housing, the contractor who was awarded the contract to construct 17 of the core houses has not performed.
“This is despite several meetings convened by Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA) with the contractor for discussion of his poor performance. The contractor also received several warning letters about his poor performance and more recently, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the contract, the contract was terminated.” The Ministry stated.
It was further noted that the CHPA is in the process of finalizing the procedures for the homes to be completed, in accordance with the standard Procurement Procedures applicable to the Low Income Settlements Programme, as soon as possible. Beneficiaries will be further updated at a meeting to be convened on Monday.
In 2010, under the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) US$27.9 Million Second Low Income Settlement Programme (LIS 2) the CH&PA expended the sum of $1.573 Billion on infrastructure works in low Income housing schemes in Regions Three, Four, Five, Six, Nine and Ten.
