The Mayor and City Council has announced that there will be new days for garbage collection around the city.
According to a statement from the council, it will be undertaking garbage collection in areas which falls under ‘Group 8’.
These areas will include Queenstown, Alberttown, Kingston, South Cummingsburg, North Cummingsburg and Kingston.
Effective from Monday refuse would be collected once weekly in Queenstown, Alberttown, Kingston and in South and North Cummingsburg. Refuse would be collected on Mondays in the Queenstown area, whilst on Tuesday refuse would be collected in Alberttown and Kingston. On Wednesdays the residents of South Cummingsburg can expect their garbage to be collected and on Friday the council will collect garbage from North Cummingsburg.
Meanwhile, the Council is urging residents to properly store their bulky refuse that would include household appliances and old furniture. These would only be collected on the last collection day of every month in the respective wards.
In recent times the Council started garbage collection around the city to ease the heavy burden on the already limited budget to pay private garbage collectors. The Council had acquired four garbage trucks which have been working around the city.
In the past the garbage collection contract around the city were given to Puran Borthers and Cevons Waste Management. On numerous occasions the two companies were forced to withdraw their services as a result of not being paid monies due to them for their services.
