Even the dead cannot rest in peace these days. They too are the target for
thieves and sick-minded people.
The family of 75-year-old Marlowe Vanderstoop is upset and shocked that some individuals broke open their mother’s tomb at the Stanleytown Cemetery in New Amsterdam some time between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.
According to the woman’s son, Bertram Vanderstoop, he received a call from the sextant of the cemetery on Wednesday morning informing him that Mrs Vanderstoop’s tomb was broken into, the lid left in the grass and several items which the woman had on were missing.
The vandals carted off the woman’s wig, slippers and her hat. The coffin was also ransacked as if someone was searching for something else. Mrs Vanderstoop was buried on Tuesday afternoon.
The tomb has been re-sea-led.
