Sisters Sacota Fortune and Ananda Alivar, appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry to face charges of inflecting grievous bodily harm to the wife of a man one of the sisters was allegedly having an affair with.
Reports stated that the women, on September 21, last, reportedly teamed up to attack Lolita Rogers while she was standing outside the residence of the defendants.
According to facts, Fortune knew Rogers. The latter happened to be passing Fortune’s home when she noticed a motorcycle similar to that of her husband.
Rogers, the prosecution said, stopped to investigate the presence of the bike when she was approached by Fortune, who was armed with an object.
The court heard that Fortune dealt Rogers who was also armed with a piece of wood, several blows about the body with a metal object causing the woman to sustain several injuries.
The matter was subsequently reported to the police, a medical report was obtained and the women were apprehended.
The prosecution objected to bail but the court ordered the defendants to pay a bail sum of $75,000 and to sign a bond to keep the peace pending the conclusion of the matter.
The second defendant, Ananda Alivar was absent at the first hearing of the matter but appeared after it was transferred to another court. There she was ordered to post $75,000 bail.
She and her sister will make their next court appearance on October 14.
