Busta Champion of Champions…
A level headed innings of 70 not out by former Berbice wicket-keeper Shastri Persaud led his new club Port Mourant Karibee Rice to a four-wicket win over Edinburgh and a place in the 2011 Busta Champion of Champions tournament final.
The burly Persaud shared several crucial partnerships with his teammates to overhaul the visitor’s total.
Edinburgh won the toss were bowled out for 200 in 46.1 of their allotted 50 overs. The visitors were indebted to a solid innings of 65 from Shafiq Khan (5×4) who received support from Yogendra Seepersaud (25), Denny David (25) and Jamal Henry 22.
After being placed at 195 for 6 in the 43rd over, Edinburg fell away badly and were all out for 200. Bowling for the home team, medium pacer Yogindra Harrinarine took 3 for 31 from 8.1 overs while off spinner Devendra Thakurdeen had 2 for 43 from 9 overs.
Port Mourant Karibee Rice reached 202 for 6 from 46.1 overs with the veteran Shastri Persaud top scoring with 70, Devendra Thakurdeen 43, Robert Moore 20 and Shameer Khan 30. Bowling for Edinburgh, off spinner Raid Ally took 3 wickets for 37 runs from 10 overs and Sasenarine Sukhdeo 2 for 45 from 10 overs. Port Mourant Karibee Rice would clash with defending Champions Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets in the final on a date to be announced shortly.
