Majestic of the Nankoo Sheriff Racing stables of West Coast Berbice and ridden by Jamaican jockey Brian Blake turned in a magical performance down the homestretch as it came back with a strong finish to edge out stable mate and pre race favourite Dubai Duchess ridden by Prem Chandra to take the feature E1 event when the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club and Sports Facilities (RCMTC&SF) in collaboration with Ansa McAl Guyana Limited held a one day keep Fit sprint event on Sunday at the Club’s track at Alness Corentyne Berbice.

Seven races were held during the day with all of the races being 1200M sprint events.
As the feature event got on the way it was a continuous battle between Majestic and Dubai Duchess of the Sheriff stable as the lead exchanged hands constantly.
Around the far turn and into the homestretch it was Dubai Duchess that was pointing the way for home, but with about 100M to go, Blake aboard Majestic in a classical piece of hand riding came through on the inside to slide his charge home by a neck to take the $300,000 top prize and the Ansa McAl trophy. Dubai Duchess, Delmur Gold and Face the Music rounded out the money.
Work Force worked its way to a comfortable victory in the 3yrs old Guyana and West Indies Bred race for animals classified G1 and lower as it took home the $250,000 top prize and the Denys Benjamin trophy after overcoming a late challenge from Domasaca Dream as Bio Fuel ran out of steam to finish third.
Prado’s Gold of the Asrafalli stable with Jamaican Jockey Andron Findley in charge moved like a Prado down the homestretch to take the Gold medal away in a neck and neck duel from Momzelle with Barbadian Liverpool and Miracle Run with Blake both of the Elcock stable in the very competitive G class race. The win was worth $200,000 compliments of Jumbo Jet and the Dr. Dwight Walrond Trophy. Zelona came in fourth. Dream Girl of the Habibulla Stable with Yap Drepaul on mount took the fight out of its opponents as it won the H1 & Lower event and the $170,000 first prize and the Francis (Chico) Chester trophy from Infinity and Funny Side.
The Habibulla Stable scored a second victory as Royal Salute with Drepaul again on the perch won the I1 race for the $140,000 first prize and the Hookumchand trophy from Infinity, Cash Connection and Funny Side.
Black Water of the Deonauth stable with Chandra in the saddles had a clear patch in the J, K class event over Sport in Time compliments of South Lands Incorporated and the Dr. Zinzie Trophy.
Mr. Bobby Vaughn (right) presents the winning El Dib trophy to Sohail Asrafalli for It’s my time victory in the L class event. Champion Jockey Prem Chandra sits aboard It’s My Time.
It’s my Time owned by Shawn Asrafalli of the Asrafalli stable showed that it was indeed it’s time as the racehorse galloped away for a comfortable gate to Pole win in the L class event compliments of Omeshwar Misir and Dax Construction Services and the Zakaria El Dib trophy. Lucky Gamble, Soldier Boy and Simba were the others that placed.
Jockey Prem Chandra edged out Yap Drepaul for the champion jockey award. Fazal Habibulla was adjudged champion Trainer. The Habibulla and Asrafalli Stables shared the champion stable awards. They all received accolades compliments of Businessman Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall Bourda Market and the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club and Sports Facilities.
According to Coordinator, Colin Elcock, the meet was a success and it shows that horses racing could be organized at different levels. The event does not have to be lavish and elaborate. The racehorse owner stated, “Different meets can be organized, Sprint meets, Handicaps, low profile, etc”. At the moment most of the top horses are out with injuries and some have died including top Horses Champtress. The Organizers also takes the opportunity to thank Attorney at law R.N Poonai and Businessman Bobby Vaughn for their help. Over 50 horses took part in the day’s proceedings. The track was dry and lightning fast and with the sun out in all its glory, Turfites had a good day at the races. The Paragon Sound system provided musical entertainment.
