Busta Champion of Champions Cricket…
Former national wicket-keeper/batsman Delbert Hicks chalked up a robust unbeaten 85 off 62 balls to lead Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets to the title match of the Busta Champion of Champions tournament.
Watched by a sizeable home crowd at the Area ‘H’ Ground, Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets crushed Blairmont Community Centre by 8 wickets in their semifinal. Blairmont Community Centre were invited to take first strike by skipper Assad Fudadin after losing the toss.
Openers Romesh Boodram and Karamchand Bissoondyal added 18 for the first wicket before off spinner Royston Crandon bowled Boodram for 2 in the 6th over. Crandon struck again in the 8th when he had Devendra Lalsa stumped by Jason Sinclair for 5 at 28 for 2 and before removing Bissoondyal for a patient 21 (3×4) at 35 for 3. Middle order batsmen Deveshwari Prasad and Hardat Bridgelall steadied the innings with a stand of 39 before Prashad was run out for 21 before off spinner Rajiv Ivan had Bridgelall caught by Khemraj Mahadeo at long on for 17. Stubborn resistance from Omesh Mangal 26* (3×4) and Wagar Hassan 26 prolonged the inevitable as Blairmont were bowled out for 158 in 44 of their allotted 50 overs. Bowling for RHT Gizmos & Gadgets, Royston Crandon took 3 for 17 from 9, Khemraj Mahadeo 3 for 23 from 6 and Ivan 3 for 34 from 9. Needing to score 160 in 50 overs to reach their seventh Busta final, RHT Gizmos & Gadgets were given an opening stand of 24 between national player Delbert Hicks and former national Under-19 batsman Renwick Batson before the impressive pacer Akram Rahaman dismissed Batson LBW for 13 with a fast in swinging yorker.
Hicks, was joined by another national Under-19 player Khemraj Mahadeo and together they added 119 runs for 2nd wicket with both playing some delightful shots on both sides of the wicket, Hicks being severe on anything short, his half century came off 36 deliveries with five boundaries.
Mahadeo was eventually dismissed for a well played 40 (3×4 2×6); Berbice senior player Rajiv Ivan 11* joined Hicks 85* and the two led Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets to an easy victory, ending on 163 for 2 in 21.2 overs.
Bowling for Blairmont Community Centre, pacer Akram Rahaman took 2 wickets for 43 from 7 overs.
Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets will face Port Mourant Karibee Rice in the final.
