Results of a post mortem carried out on Monday by Government Pathologist, Dr Vivekanand Brijmohan, have shown that 44-year-old Jaipaul Jaikishun, of Hampshire South, Corentyne died from shock, hemorrhaging and lacerations to the liver.
Jaikishun, a mechanic for over 20 years with the Albion Estate, was crushed to death by a tractor last Thursday evening at the Belvedere Backdam.
He was working the night shift on Thursday around 18:30 hrs, during which he was trying to put the pin on a tractor so that it could have been connected to a plough.
Except for the lights from the tractor, the entire area was very dark. Jaikishun was then crushed. He was rushed to the Port Mourant Dispensary, then to the New Amsterdam Hospital.
Madramootoo stated that about seven x-rays were taken and all showed internal bleeding. “When they cut him, they saw he liver damaged…smashed. They couldn’t do anything else so they rushed him to Georgetown Public Hospital,” he said.
Jaikishun was then put on life support machine but died some time between 21:30 hrs and 22:00 hrs on Friday.
According to relatives, on Monday, personnel from the Guyana Sugar Corporation East Berbice Estate visited them and offered to assist with expenses of the funeral, which would be held on Friday.
The family is also expected to be the recipient of a financial package since Jaikishun died while he was on duty.
The Jaikishun family is concerned at this point and fearful that the man’s wife, Patricia Madramootoo, might not receive any survivor’s benefit from the National Insurance Scheme, since the survivor must be at least 45 years to receive such benefit. Madramootoo is 39 years.
The driver of the tractor, Mr Gangaram was detained for questioning and released.
