The cupboards and the office are fast running out of space for trophies and medallions but the sweet feeling of victory over a long standing arch rival is always one to cherish while reflecting on the hard work done to achieve same.
The President, Executive and Members of the Berbice Cricket Board is expressing gratitude to Manager – Mark Lyte, Coach – Adrian Amsterdam, Captain – Assad Fudadin and the Berbice Cellink Senior team for retaining the 2011 El Dorado 50 overs Inter County title after soundly trashing Demerara by six wickets at the Albion Community Centre Ground on Sunday.
According to a release from the Board, the victory was just the continuation of a remarkable success story for Berbice cricket and its domination in Guyana.
“Success comes as of the result of careful planning, visionary leadership, hard work and team unity and the Berbice Cricket Board has provided all of the above over the last four years. With the amount of cricket being played at all levels and the numerous projects and programmes in place, the Berbice Cricket Board was confident that Berbice would continue its domination of the game well in the future.”
The BCB said it would like to especially praise skipper Assad Fudadin for leading from the front, his level headed vice captain Royston Crandon, Narsingh Deonarine, the highly talented Jonathan Foo, the improving Stephen Latcha who all played crucial roles during the tournament.
Coming in for special mention was Coach Adrian Amsterdam who has over the years worked quietly to transform his team into a confident and determined unit and surely deserve an opportunity at the national level. The Berbice Senior Selectors also deserve special mention for sticking to their guns on the selection of the team despite the criticism of some who had their own agenda.
“The BCB would also like to express thanks to the thousands upon thousands of passionate Berbicians who turned up at the Albion Community Centre Ground to support our boys. There were special feelings on the ground as every Berbician united with the full knowledge and confidence that Berbice cricket is on top of its game and would continue to climb higher.
There can be no doubt that the passion and pride among Berbicians were back for its cricketers and it was on full display on Sunday.” “Thank you to all who have supported our boys especially the thousands of children and youths who rallied around their heroes.”
Congrats again to our boys and May we march on to the National Twenty20 and four-day titles. The Berbice Cricket Board wishes to reassure the Ancient County that progress would continue as never before and that we would uphold the high tradition we have set ourselves. Nothing would be allowed to destroy our unity in Berbice.
