St Cuthbert’s Heritage Day celebrations…
The annual St. Cuthbert’s Mission Heritage celebrations ended on a sad note yesterday when one of its revelers, Paul Bahadur, was found dead in the community’s creek in the Upper Mahaica River, located 65 miles from Mahaica.
According to Emmanuel Simon, a resident of St. Cuthbert’s Mission, during the Heritage Day celebration on Saturday at around 17:30 hrs, an alarm was raised that a man identified as Paul Bahadur was missing. Subsequently, a search was executed for the young man, which lasted until it was dark.
It was suspected that the Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara resident had drowned and searchers placed significant emphasis on the creek for Bahadur’s body, Simon recounted.
Simon noted that the body was eventually discovered around 7:30 am yesterday by some of the campers who had combed the area for the young man.
The resident revealed that patrons who participate in the celebrations, usually camp out near the creek and in the community, and this year was no different.
He added that yesterday morning, the campers, who were anxiously awaiting the commencement of the ‘wash-down’ sport, packed their bags and prematurely left the venue in light of the tragedy.
Police were still investigating the circumstances surrounding Bahadur’s demise up to press time. They will be relying on the post mortem examination which is expected to be performed today.
