Metro Office and Computer Supplies in New Amsterdam has opened a spanking new office. This business had outgrown its old office which was situated at Main and Church Streets in New Amsterdam.
Prime Minister Samuel Hinds did the honour of cutting the ribbon to declare the new multi-million dollar building open. The two storey building which was constructed at a cost of just over $60M, is situated at the Corner of Main Street and Theatre Alley in New Amsterdam.
The Prime Minister congratulated the management and staff of the Metro for having faith in Guyana and for pressing forward to help develop the country.
He had special words of commendation for owners, overseas-based Guyanese– the Ramnarayane family– who also manages a branch of Metro in the United States of America. In fact Metro had its genesis in the United States of America and has been in Guyana for over 15 years.
President of Metro, Ron Ramnarayane, stated that though they are residing overseas they always have Guyana at heart and will continue to expand and support Guyana.
He stated that the revelation of Metro could not have been achieved without the hard work and dedication of the staff in both the USA and Guyana.
He complimented Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana operation, Taajnauth Jadunauth, for being the main man behind the expansion works in Guyana. He stated that his CEO is a visionary who watered the seed which he, Ramnarayane, had planted many years ago.
Mr Ramnarayane was also very loud in praise for Branch Manager, Avia Lindie, who he said has been a thinker and a strong pillar in the advancement, growth and expansion of the company.
Also speaking at the commissioning ceremony was former Chancellor of the Judiciary Cecil Kennard and a number of representatives of the private sector.
The new building is fully air conditioned. It will offer additional service including internet browsing, additional technology and employment.
According to Branch Manager, Ms Lindie, they want to offer a complete package when persons come into Metro, especially students.
She said that they could do their purchases and also do their research all in the same building.
We saw a need to expand and set new parameters so that others can follow. She said the company plans to expand the range of services and products currently offered.
The new location is fitted with a 150 kilowatt generator and has a wheelchair ramp. The construction of the building commenced in September 2010.
