The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) in association with the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club (RHTY&SC) has joined forces to assist eight cricket clubs with items that will aid in their continued efficiency.
The Clubs benefitting are Blairmont Community Centre, Memorex Bermine, Bush Lot United, Edinburgh, Port Mourant, Skeldon Community Centre, Police ‘B’ Division and Young Warriors. Albion Community Centre Cricket Club was invited but did not turn up.
Among the items presented were water coolers, water mugs, drinking glasses and groundsman boots. Chairman of the BCB Special Events Committee, Hilbert Foster at the presentation ceremony said that the Board was quite aware of the numerous problems that clubs in the Ancient County were facing to keep active and as such the Board was determined to assist.
Foster informed the Clubs that the Berbice Board and the RHTY&SC would continue to assist them in the future and that they would be supported like never before as the Board wants them to not only survive but to expand and grow.
With Berbice Cricket being developed at an unbelievable rate, some clubs have been left behind as cricket is played at the Under-13, 15, 17, 19, 21, Female, Second and First Division levels.
BCB President Keith Foster, Chairman of the Competitions Committee, Carl Moore and Secretary, Angela Haniff all spoke at the presentation and expressed delight that the Board was able to assist clubs on a regular basis as all efforts were made to lift Berbice cricket to the highest level ever.
The Board in the past has assisted clubs with cricket balls, stumps, hygiene and educational kits, clothing and footwear. The Senior Executives of the Board urged the clubs to take proper care
of the donated items and to use them for the intended purpose. Julian Moore of the Memorex Bermine Cricket Club, who spoke on behalf of the clubs, expressed gratitude to the BCB for its caring and visionary leadership and for working hard to assist the different clubs. The BCB and the RHTY&SC are expressing gratitude to Food For The Poor Guyana Inc., Ansa McAl Trading, Universal DVD and Bissoondyal Singh for their assistance in making the presentations possible.
