Action in the Al Stationery & Computer Centre Over-35 male 20/20 & female Open 10/10 softball cricket tournament organised by the Guyana Softball League continues tomorrow.
At the DCC: Rangers Masters XI (West Coast) tackle Regal Masters XI (Georgetown) in over-35 Category: Ituni Warriors (Linden) come against Mahaica Princesses in Female Category.
Tomorrow’s final day of the competition will see the best teams in the country tangling for supremacy and whopping prizes.
The competition which started in January and was stopped to accommodate the GT&T 10/10 competition, also being administered by the Guyana Softball League, will now conclude with some exciting matches.
In the Male Over 35 category which has $100,000 dollars for the winning team along with a beautiful trophy, two teams who have dominated throughout which incidentally had 47 teams participating and saw some very close matches with experienced players of the caliber of Ramesh Narine, Eon Abel, Lance Adams, Samuel Kingston, Mohamed Saffie and Jagmohan Singh and a host of others playing some crucial roles to take their team deep in the competition.
Regal Masters XI who have dominant against all the teams they have come up against so far have some of the country’s best players in their lineup. Players like Samuel Kingston who have made a ton of runs so far including a double century will want to take their team to the victory party. He will be supported by Mark Fung the left Handed opening partner of Kingston and who have scored a valuable 87 in Regal’s semifinal encounter versus Max Masters “B”. The experienced Lance Adams and Mahendra Arjune along with Mahendra Hardyal will look to pile on the runs.
The bowling attack will be spearheaded by Mahase Chunilall who has been mean in his spells and will be supported by all rounders Fung, Arjune and Hardyal.
Rangers Masters XI who also look strong on paper and easily took care of D’Edward SC in their semifinal by six wickets with the all rounder Ramesh Rambharose showing his class along with Jagmohan Singh and Marcus Nagappa who was also among the runs. The batting hinge on Ramesh Rambharose, Dubraj Singh and Jagmohan Singh who are all hard hitting batsmen and can dominate any bowling on their day.
They will supported by Hemendra Kowlessar who has single handedly taken Rangers to victory with his skilful batting and can bat for long periods and still score freely. The bowling will be led by the crafty Mohamed Saffie who can turn the ball a long way and who have made batsmen feel the jitters when facing him. The support cast in the bowling will be Devanand Dwarka who have been unplayable so far and have 12 wickets to his name in 4 matches. Rambharose, Kowlessar and Jagmohan Singh will also be a handful.
In the Female category, Ituni Warriors who have shown their temperament for big games will hold the edge because of their batting which has shown some big hitters who have been able to take the games away from their opposition quickly. They will take on Mahaica Princesses who have that their strength is unity without having any extra ordinary player. Their biggest win have been against Berbice whom they dominated entirely to reach this stage.
In addition to the finals there will be an exhibition match between Wolf’s Warriors and Regal XI who have been able to produce some exciting games when they meet will again offer the spectators a chance to see why they are top teams. There will be live radio commentary of the finals.
The Sponsor will have lots of giveaways for cricket fans who are expected to swarm the DCC Ground tomorrow. The Minster of Sport, Dr Frank Anthony, is expected to be on hand to make presentations at the end of the games on behalf of the sponsor.
