Three tons registered in opening round
GCA’s Noble House Seafood 2nd division cricket
Three batsmen scored centuries in the opening round of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Noble House Seafoods two-day second division cricket competition over the weekend.
At the GYO ground, Rovindralall Persaud and Derrick Koulen scored centuries for the home team against Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC), while fast bowling all-rounder Kareem Naughton responded with a century and an unbeaten fifty for the opposition.

Denzi Allen and Delvon McEwan also registered half-centuries for MSC in that drawn game, while left-arm spinner Damien Vantull scored two half centuries and captured six wickets for the hosts University of Guyana (UG) in their win against Transport Sports Club (TSC) in the other game played over the weekend.
At GYO Persaud (113) and Koulen (100*) got support from Vijay Gangaram (43) as GYO scored an imposing 373, Ryan Jones took 3-50 and Delon Moffett, Carlyle Collins and Naughton had two each for MSC.
Naughton then led the way for MSC with 108, but only Delon Best (27) and Allen (25) offered any support as their team fell for 213.
Garfield Deroche grabbed 4-33, while YA Persaud and Nankishol Narine captured two wickets for GYO who ensured the follow-on and had MSC on 206-4 when the match ended on Sunday.
Deroche took 3-79 as Allen fell for 59 and Moffett 21 before Naughton (60*) and Naughton (50*) featured in an unfinished century partnership for the fifth wicket.
At UG, Vantull made 75 as Azim Azeez took 3-34 in UG’s 182 before TSC were bowled out for 119 with Clyde Hoyte making 26 and Shawn Massiah 22. Vantull bagged 4-48 and Darnel Douglas 3-14.
UG in their second innings declared at 164-9 with Vantull scoring 54 and Ritish Bridgelall 48 as Azeez took 4-50 and Jonathon Alphonso 3-32.
Set 227 to win, Sunil Singh top-scored with 27 as TSC were bowled out for 91, Dennis Heywood took 4-32 and Vantull and Douglas supported with two wickets each.
Meanwhile, the competition continues this weekend with three matches. Police face GNIC at GNIC, DCC take on Everest at UG and GDF battle Vikings at GYO. (Sean Devers)
