Neil Reece in a time of 1hr, 30 minutes on Sunday convincingly rode away with the annual Aqua Mist water cycling event sponsored by beverage giants Banks DIH Limited and organized by the Flying Aces Cycling Club.
The 25 miles race, which was for cyclist of the Flying Aces Cycling Club only, began in front of Banks DIH Limited New Amsterdam branch and proceeded to Tain Berbice Campus on the Corentyne Coast before returning to its place of origin. Some 15 cyclist from the Berbice area took to the starting line and were sent on their way by Banks DIH Berbice sales manager Joshua Torrezao.
As the race got on its way, Reece, who is the top junior Cyclist in the country and rides under the A. Ally and Sons Banner, was being challenged by the other riders, however the top junior rider continued to press forward and was able to dispense of his competitors on the downward trip as he powered away for the win, being accompanied by the elements and the wailing police sirens.
Wasim Hasnoo came in second ahead of Ray Millington, Dwight Holder fourth and Nashane Jaundoo fifth. Among the juveniles Elijah Brijadar was the first to cross the finishing and he was followed by Victor Henry.
Top female Cyclist Marcia Dick was a one woman show as she won on the distaff side.
Reece took away two prime point prizes with Millington taking one and Top Female cyclist Marica Dick the other. Some of the riders were given head starts.
Speaking to Kaieteur Sport after the event Branch supervisor Bradford Peterkin expressed the company’s satisfaction in the way the event was conducted and stated that they will definitely continue to sponsor the event in the future. He on behalf of the company commended the Flying Ace Cycle Club and Coach Randolph Roberts for bringing off a well organized incident freed event. This was the third time that the event was being sponsored.
