The Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) met last night, instead of Tuesday night, to discuss among other things, the ratification of the Inter-Guiana Games (IGG) team, which included them making a decision to omit an athlete to have the requisite quota.
Kaieteur Sport was privy to both the male and female teams; however the male team had an extra athlete, which exceeded the number that is allowed at the tri-nation event. According to the IGG rules, 26 athletes that comprise 13 female and 13 males, are required.
The AAG was expected to meet Tuesday night to make a decision on the matter and move ahead with the submission of their team to the National Sports Commission (NSC), but this newspaper learnt that the association had not met on Tuesday as was planned.
The association met last night instead, and an official who was part of the meeting indicated that they will be making a decision on the IGG male team. The official, who will remain anonymous, said that the information on who was axed will be available afterward.
From investigations, it seems as though the AAG has to make a decision between Shaquille Scott and Clarence Greene. At a meeting with the athletes, officials apparently stated that Scott was on standby, making Greene’s selection more certain among the males.
