Den Amstel’s Andre Hector single handedly led his side to a crushing 6-2 win over Wales United when play in the Trophy Stall / West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) Under-17 league continued at the Den Amstel Community Centre Ground this past weekend.
Hector, the leading marksman of the tournament which is two weeks old has taken his tally to 8 overall so far having also netted a double when his team brushed aside Young Achievers of Pouderoyen on the first weekend of play.
Against Wales, Hector who has exhibited a penchant for scoring, netted in the 17th, 18th, 26th, 48th, 68th and 89th minute. Netting for Wales were Levi Anthony (42) and Sherwin Bernard in the 55th.
Also recording victories on the weekend were Stewartville which edged fellow Stewartville based Eagles FC 2-1.
On Saturday, Seawall won via the walk over route from Stewartville, Uitvlugt hammered Young Achievers 5-2, while Eagles soared to a convincing 5-1 win over the whipping boys of the tournament so far Wales.
Leading Eagles to victory was Juel Stephens who netted a hat-trick (8, 47, 76) with one each off the boots of Jason Carrol (55) and Stephan Griffith (71). Pulling one back for Wales was William Mundon in the 20th minute.
Uitvlugt’s Mark Evelyn and Dellon Lanferman scored a double each in their triumph over Young Achievers; Evelyn hit the net work in the 1st and 5th minute, while Lanferman was on target in the 39th and 50th minute. Jamal Harvey sealed the deal on the stroke of full time. Lexroy Mansfield (35) and Marvin Frank (41) sought to pull things back for Young Achievers but their efforts were not able to stave off the rampant Uitvlugt youths.
Eagles (2 wins), Den Amstel (2 wins) and Stewartville (1 win 1 draw) are unbeaten after two matches each.
On the first weekend of play (September 10 and 11), Den Amstel banged Young Achievers 5-0; Seawall FC of Pouderoyen defeated Wales 3-1; a similar score line was the result in the game between Eagles and Uitvlugt in favour of the former with Stewartville and Young Achievers playing to a 1-1 draw.
For Den Amstel, Hector tucked in a brace with one each from Omari Haynes, Gavin Graham and Paul Miggins. Seawall got their goals from Esan Nelson (5), a defence error in the 47th minute and Stephon Stephens in the 75th minute. Converting the consolation goal for Wales was Levi Bradford in the 27th minute.
Eagles’ Juel Stephens was on target in the 25th and 40th minute with the other goal coming from Kelvin Richards in the 60th in their 3-1 win over Uitvlugt which got their lone goal from Dyron Giddings in the 20th minute.
Young Achievers had taken the lead against Stewartville on the half hour mark through Alonzo Bowman.
They held the advantage until the 75th minute when Delon Marks ensured Stewartville would have an equal share of the points when he breached the defence and goalkeeper.
More matches will be played this Saturday and Sunday at the same venue.
