Newly accredited US Ambassador to Guyana, D. Brent Hardt, on Thursday presented his credentials to President Bharrat Jagdeo in the Office of the President.
Following the presentation of credentials, President Jagdeo and the Ambassador met to discuss the broad-ranging bilateral agenda between Guyana and the United States, an embassy release said yesterday.

“The Ambassador assured the President that he will work to support a stable, secure, healthy, and prosperous Guyana that sees the United States as a close and reliable partner. He emphasized that he is interested in hearing people’s views and learning from their perspectives.”
In a first meeting with the media following the ceremony, the Ambassador said he looked forward to building upon the Embassy’s ongoing work in combating HIV/AIDS, promoting economic diversity and opportunity, and strengthening security through the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI).
Ambassador Hardt was confirmed by the Senate in June and sworn in as Ambassador to Guyana on August, 19, 2011. He is a career Senior Foreign Service Officer with extensive service in the Western Hemisphere and Europe.
Prior to his nomination, he served as Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. at the U.S. Embassy to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean from January 2009 to June 2011. He also served as Deputy Chief of Mission and Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. at U.S. Embassy in Nassau, the Bahamas from 2005-2008, and at the U.S. Embassy to the Holy See in Rome from 2002 to 2005.
The Ambassador is married. He and his wife Saskia have three sons.
