Calvin Johnson, also known as ‘Gun butt’, of 145 East Ruimveldt was yesterday appeared before Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry to answer the charge of robbery and was refused bail.
Johnson on August 21, last, allegedly robbed Winston Pereira of Second Street, Meadow Bank on the night of a music show at the National Stadium.
Johnson and three other men during a scuffle, reportedly relieved Pereira, at knife point, of one gold chain and pendant valued $100,000, two gold rings valued $80,000, and $58,000 in cash.
The defendant, who had another matter of wounding pending in Court Two pleaded not guilty to the robbery charge. He told the court in his defense that he was apprehended, that there was no identification parade and no mention of the offence committed.
Johnson was refused bail and the matter was transferred to another court.
