In observance of Amerindian Heritage Month, Food for the Poor Guyana Inc donated a quantity of household and personal items to the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs to be distributed to Amerindian communities. The items are expected to enhance the lives of villagers.
The items were handed over to the Amerindian Affairs Ministry yesterday in the Food For the Poor boardroom, Festival City, Georgetown. Receiving the contribution was the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Collin Croal.
According to Leon Davis, Executive Director of Food for the Poor, donations were previously made to the New Amsterdam and Corriverton Amerindian Students’ Hostels, and requested the Ministry to continue making distribution to other Amerindian villages where Food for the Poor cannot reach; an account was also requested for the distribution of the items
Davis stated that the organisation is a non-Government organization that assists the administration.
He further stated that the institute will donate seven desktop computers to schools in Amerindian communities, so that the students will have knowledge of computers when the laptops in the One Laptop per Family (OLPF) are distributed.
Croal expressed thanks to the institute for reaching out to the Amerindian villages and assured the charitable organization that the items will reach the people and will be accounted for.
