The quiet community called ‘Rasta Town’ in Laluni, off the Linden Soesdyke Highway, was yesterday sent into shock as a well known mother of six was hacked to death by her husband.
At around 10:30 hours, 35-year-old Tessa Ramascindo was found dead in her backyard with chop wounds about her body by one of her six children. According to reports, the woman was hacked to death by her husband of 22 years, 45-year-old Seonarine Deonarine.
The woman’s 19-year-old daughter Monica Deonarine along with several other residents made the startling discovery having traced blood from the front of the yard. Monica told this publication that her mother and father along with four of her siblings woke up and began their regular routine yesterday morning. According to Monica, she assisted her mother in getting her other siblings, ages 8, 11, 13 and 14, ready for school. The eldest child is 23. Monica Deonarine said once her siblings were all prepared for school she left the house.
“Before I lef, everybody in de house de talking and getting along well, and I lef and tell mommy that I going by me aunty, she must clean up de house and when I come back I gon help she wash and cook,” the teen recounted.
She said that while at her aunt, her father called her cellular phone saying “I just kill yuh mother and I drink poison”.
Not believing what she was told, she informed her other relatives, who accompanied her back to her home. Monica said when she arrived there she began calling for her mother and father but there was total silence. The young woman related that she noticed a window open, but did not venture to go into the house.
She related that she and her aunts then noticed a large spot in the yard which appeared to be blood, and decided to follow a trail of blood spots in the sand. This led them to a clump of bushes where the woman was found with chop wounds about her body.
“We try picking she up but then we realize that she was already dead, so I just start screaming and calling fuh daddy, but we aint find he nowhere around.”
She added that the family immediately contacted the police, and other residents began a manhunt. However no one could ascertain whether or not the man had really ingested poison. But relatives maintained that they do not believe that he had done so. His daughter said the family had no sort of pesticide or poisonous substance in the house. Amidst tears she related that when she left her home her parents seemed normal as they were ‘laughing and gaffing’.
She said like every other couple her parents had issues but they always found a way to deal with it.
“They used to argue and so on and one and two times he would beat her… but nothing serious.”
She admitted that her father was a heavy drinker, but pointed out that he had recently eased the habit.
Meanwhile residents of the area are now asking questions as to what will become of the couple’s children. Both Tessa and her husband worked as farmers to maintain the family.
Up to press time yesterday police who were joined by residents who knew the area well were combing the forested area for the man.

Instead of building a 69 million dollars building why not pour money into social services. Given human services workers the funds and tools they need to do their jobs.
I think the Ministry of Human Affairs (or what it is called) needs to visit these rural areas. This woman had her first child at 12 years old if my math is correct. It is obvious that there is a lack of education in many areas, especially sexually and domestic abuse.
My condolence to the grieving family
Sad story, sorry for kids. Who will take care of them? The saddest part is the what the daughter said “They used to argue and so on and one and two times he would beat her… but nothing serious.” That’s abuse and she sees it as nothing serious so when she gets a husband and if he beats her (I hope not), will that be not seroius too. The abuse to women will continue because SOME women think it’s not serious and it’s ok. If she has to take care of the younger one, will they grow up thinking that a beating is not serious too?
OMG! When this murderous tendency towards women would stop? Everyone is walking on ‘tenterhook’ these days. Generally, people are on such edge today than ten years ago. What has changed during the last decade? Men, for generations, have been beating their wives (a generation curse, I would say) but killings were rear. I would advise that once there is any form of abuse in the relationship it would get nasty one day. Men dont just stop beating their wives. A neighbour of mine got beat up the other day…she cried a lot… I remembered her saying ‘is years meh husband aint beat me’…
its sad to hear about the loss of another woman by her lover, the strange thing is that these women are not married to these men after years of being together, please ladies if you are good for dinner in the night then are better for breakfast in the morning. The lord’s blessings is in nbmarriages, don’t settle for less. Nevertheless my sincere condolences to the bereaved family.
What is wrong with these men in Guyana? There seems to be a serious need for psychotherapy in this country. Too many women’s lives are being taken by these sick men. I trust that there are relatives who will step in and help to take care of those young children who are now without parents. (whether the father committed suicide or not).
Women, it is not okay for any man to abuse you. It is not okay for him to beat you at all. That is not love. Run for your life. The men who hit their women need to be jailed. Perhaps it is time to bring back flogging in jail too just for these wife beaters, so they could feel the pain.
oh my … de progress of guyana … unda dis regime !!
OMG another woman murdered. this woman was never happy a pic can tell a thousand words. I really hope KN had a typo error and instead of 22 yrs of marriage should read as 12. This man raped this woman for every child she had before the age of 18, if all are his. She is 35 he is 45 and her eldest is 23 he raped her at 12 and dominated her life, raising children and farming. what a sick drunk piece of …….
Pictures tell a story, looking at the pics you can see that unhappiness was abound.
My condolence goes out to Monica Deonarine and her 4 siblings who have have been robbed of their mother by the hands of their father………….I wonder when will the fathers stop killing their wiives who are the mothers of their children ? This is WRONG WRONG WRONG , who the hell is you to take someone else life? I don’t care what kind of marital problems husbands are experiencing with their wives , adultury or whatever , it doesn’t give you the right to take her life , if you and your spouse cann’t get along well it is simple get a divorce. Women please don’t put up with abusive realationships cause you might end up like this very mother.
A word of advise ladies, hitting (even if its now and then), abusive language (even though it may be ‘only when he’s drunk’) together with threats.. are always to be taken seriously. Don’t walk away… run! Women can be strong and survive on their own.
pics tell a thousand words
Heavy drinkers = murders waiting to happen….
Sad thing in all of this is, he had the gall to call the woman CHILD to tell her he killed her mom, that is the ultimate evil.
This is so disturbing not only to the physical but also to ones spritual being, that women have to continue in this day and age in abuse and being murdered, the Department of Social Services need to run a advertisement “if you see, know or hear abuse of woman or children report immediately to the Deparment of Social Services, if not you as a citizen is also repsonsible for that woman or child’s death”
the people are the asset of every country for every one that is murderd is the lost of a gram of gold.
My sympathy to the family , this is so sad ,these poor children are now left motherless . These abusers treat women like they are a piece of property. I hope they find him soon before he does this to a next innocent woman.
When they smoke their brain cannot think straight so they resort to cruel acts.
