ECB names squad for senior one day inter county tourney
Former National U-19 players Yougeshwar Lall and Rovindra Parsram slammed half centuries as Central Essequibo defeated Leguan in the final of the Essequibo Cricket Board / Busta first division 50 overs tournament under lights at the Wakenaam Community Centre Ground in Good Success on Saturday night.
In a match which was reduced to 30 overs due to a late start, Central Essequibo won the toss and elected to bat first in front of a large crowd and were off to a good start as Lall and Herell Green posted 62 for the first wicket before Green was caught at short mid wicket for 19. Ganesh Mangal (14) then joined Lall and took score to 107 before Mangal went.
Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals but this did not prevent the runs from flowing as Central posted a respectable 246 all out in 29.4 overs. Lall, who hit five fours, top scored with 56 while Parsram with five fours and one six made 53. Rondy Brijmohan and Randy Mohabir were the other batsmen to reach double figures with 14 and 12 respectively as Essequibo U-19 off spinner Tulsieram Premnauth bagged 5-52 from 6 overs. Extras contributed a healthy 57 to the Central Essequibo total.
Leguan began their reply with Huckumchand Savitir and Muneshwar Jattan putting together 30 for the first wicket stand before Savitir departed for 12. Former Essequibo U-19 player Kevin Gordon who made 20 and Jattan then took the score to 54 before Jattan was bowled by West Indies U-19 pacer Ronsford Beaton for 21.
Thereafter Leguan threatened briefly before they were eventually bowled out for 146 in 23.2 overs. Premnauth 22 and Trevor Whyte 21 and were the other principal scorers while Extra chipped in with 34. Left arm spinner Herry Green 3-30, Balchan Shivamber 2-7 and Latchman Rohit 2-27 were the main wreckers for Central who took the winning trophy and $100,000. Leguan collected the runner up prize, while Premnauth was given the man of the match and best bowler in the final awards and Lall received the best batsman trophy in the final.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, managing director of Guyana Beverage incorporated Robert Selman said he was pleased to be associated with cricket in Essequibo once again and thanked the spectators for their support. He also congratulated both teams for reaching the final while President of the Essequibo Cricket Board, Sheik Ahmad thanked the sponsors.
Meanwhile, the ECB selectors have named their team for the Guyana Cricket Board senior one day inter county competition. The squad will be led by Ronsford Beaton, while Yougheshwar Lall will serve as his deputy. Kaieteur sport was told that Latchman Rohit is unavailable for the tournament.
The squad reads: Ronsford Beaton (Capt.), Ricardo Adams, Yougeshwar Lall (V. Capt.), Norman Federicks, Kevon Boodie, Herell Green, Royan Federicks, Jason Heyliger, Kevin Gordon, Tulsieram Premnauth, Tyrone Narine, Anthony Adams, Herry Green and Rovindra Parsram. Vibert Johnson (Coach), Brian Christiani (manager).
