The Horseracing fraternity is mourning the loss of one of the country Top Racehorse owners, Deodat Singh Known as “Customs”, 44yrs of Happy Acres, East Coast Demerara who died on Friday evening, after his Toyota Tundra PJJ 4811 crashed into a utility pole and some Concrete piles at Planters Hall Mahaicony around 22:30 hrs. He died on the way to the Georgetown hospital.
Singh was the owner of the popular Customs Racing Stable which is based at The Norman Singh Memorial Turf Club, No 6 West Coast Berbice.
The man, a father of four young children ages 15, 14, 12 and 10 one boy and three girls and a Rice farmer and Dredge Owner, came on the racing scene about four years ago.
His stable included the likes of The Gap, Sir Balagie, Pixie Fire, Maya, Laura Lee in Flight, Pinky, Customs Warrior, Dem A watch me, and the newly imported Stormy Flame among others.
The Customs Racing Stable, which has won the champion stable accolade on a number of occasions, burst onto the horses racing scene after Singh bought over a number of horses from the Simms Racing Stable, while other horses were bought from the Habibulla Racing Stable and the once popular Naljeet Racing Stable.
Singh’s death was described as a great loss to the Horses Racing Fraternity. He was described as easy going among by other horse owners, “one who doesn’t fight up”.
They stated that he will be greatly missed in the horses racing arena. A Man, who is known not to take sides or show favour, is known as one of the few owners who will turn up with his horses to race despite the circumstances.
When others will boycott or show favour with certain tracks, Singh and the crew from the Customs Racing Stable will be there, putting sometime two and three horses in a race to make the activity a success.
He also assists tremendously with sponsorship and would sponsor at all the race tracks. For two consecutive years 2008 and 2009 he part sponsored the Norman Singh and Customs horse race meet where Scooters among other prizes were given out.
The entire Horses racing Fraternity in Guyana joined in extending sincerest sympathy to his entire family including his wife Priya and children Romesh, Roshanie, Ramia and Devya. He is expected to be laid to rest today in Corentyne.
