Bush Lot United Turf Club on Sunday successfully held a grand One day horse Meet at the club’s track, Bush Lot, West Coast Berbice. The track was holding a race meet after more than a decade without staging a race meet there.
The event was a fund raising affair which was held to raise funds to help in the restoration of the once famous race track. Six races were held with the highest class being for the ‘I’ class horses, with the flag start being used.
The main ‘I’ class event saw Flying Object of the Whitney Isaacs stable of Hopetown, West Coast Berbice winning its second consecutive race in two starts. The animal which was ridden by veteran Jockey Desmond was in tremendous form as it ran away with the 5 ½ furlong race and the $50,000 top prize and trophy, romping home from start to finish. Natural Mystic, Black Tricks and Oh So Sharp ended second, third and fourth.
The J class 5 furlong event which was the distance of all the other races was taken by New Moon from Billy the Kid and Pleasant Surprise as it took home the $40,000 and trophy.
MacGyver of the Gibson Stable was the winner of the K class event as it romped home ahead of Mr. Cool and School Boy for the $15,000 top prize and trophy.
Other winners on the day were Black Gold, School Boy and Black Master.
Jockey Desmond was the champion jockey with four wins and he received a trophy, compliments of the organizers.
