The melodious recitals of Qaseeda, laughter and joy filled the Enmore Market tarmac, East Coast Demerara, last Saturday evening, as Muslims from across the country gathered to celebrate Eid Fest.
The Indian Arrival Committee (IAC) hosts Eid Fest annually with the aim of keeping the Muslim culture alive. This was beautifully portrayed as youths and elders praised Allah. Inculcating religious values in youths was well demonstrated as they recited Qaseeda, informed the audience of rules pertaining to Islam as a complete way of life, engaged in Quran reading, and spoke praises fluently in Arabic.
According to Amir Shohail Shamsudein, Imam, Starthoven Masjid, Eid marks the end of Ramadan. It is the celebration after fasting, the sacrifice of oneself in fast during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
Imam Shamsudein emphasized that fasting has many uses including keeping the bodies of believers healthy. During Ramadan, persons stay away from certain foods and are rewarded greatly by Allah, he explained.
He posited that the Month is divided into three parts. The first phase is to gain Allah’s blessings, the second phase is to seek forgiveness of one’s misdeeds, and the final phase is to be saved on the day of judgement from the fire of hell.
