NBS 40-over cricket in North E’bo
Half centuries by Nimron Bahadur, Kennard Sewdat and Romel Fernandes highlighted the latest action of the New Building Society 40-over cricket competition which commenced recently in North Essequibo.
On Sunday at Lima, the host overcame Walton Hall by 27 runs. Lima took first turn at the crease and piled up 201-9 after the game was reduced to 20 overs due to rain. Nimron Bahadur was their leading run getter with 94 (8×6, 6×4) while Ray Brian Bissessar made 34 as Dindyal Tillack grabbed 3-40.
Walton Hall in their turn at the crease managed 174-6 when the overs expired.
Uvendra Balgobin and Krishna Persaud scored 45 and 41 respectively as Bahadur returned to capture 3-40.
At Walton Hall, Charity got the better of Richmond Titans by 3 wickets. Kennard Sewdat slammed 85 (4×6, 5×4) and got support from F. McDonald 35 as Richmond scored 179-9 in a game which was reduced to 20 overs. Romel Fernandes who took a hat-trick was the pick of the bowlers for Charity with 4-20. Fernandes then returned to hit 92 (7×6, 9×4) as Charity knocked off the required target for the loss of 7 wickets ending on 182 in 18 overs. Sanjeev Ramdeen also supported with 36.
The other matches between Gunners and Young Achievers and Topfein and Young Guns which were scheduled for Anna Regina and Richmond grounds respectively were rained out. Meanwhile on Saturday at Lima, Lima defeated Charity by 5 wickets. Charity batted first and made 184-9 off their 40 overs with Christopher Calvan scoring 68, while Ravi Ramroop chipped in with 27. Ray Brain Bissessar 4-24 and Rajeev Manichand 2-26 were the main wicket takers for Charity who responded with 185-2 in 23 overs. Faizal Karim stroked an unbeaten 105 (9×6, 6×4) while Manichand supported with 34 not out.
The competition continues today with Gunners facing Walton Hall at Anna Regina, Lima hosting Titans, Young Achievers taking on Top Gun at Walton Hall, while Charity will be at home to Young Guns.
The top four finishers will clash in the semifinals the following Sunday.
