Busta 1st Division 50-over cricket festival in E’bo
Wakenaam, Leguan, Bartica and Central Essequibo recorded victories as the Busta first division 50-over cricket festival commenced on Thursday in Essequibo with 4 matches.
At the Wakenaam Community Centre ground the host made light work of North Essequibo, winning by 6 wickets.
The visitors batted first after winning the toss and scored 153 all out in 36 overs. Tameshwar Ramesh made 28 while Navin Singh supported with 25 and Faizal Karim 22. Left arm spinner Ricardo Adams and offspinner Nazeer Mohamed bagged three wickets each.
Wakenaam then responded with 155-4 in 23.5 overs. Adams, a national U-19 player top scored with 56 (5×6, 2×4) while Satnarine Sahadeo made 39. The game was reduced to 40 overs due to a late start.
At Johanna Cecelia, Leguan stunned South Essequibo by 21 runs. Leguan took first strike in a game which was reduced to 40 overs and were bowled out for 128 in 22.3 overs. Huckumchand Savitir led with 25 and Tulsieram Premnauth assisted with 15 as offspinner Ian Gonsalves claimed 5-30 and national U-19 player Anthony Adams 3-27.
South in reply folded for 107 in 23.4 overs, Tajeshwar Deonarine was the only batsman that offered any resistance with 29 as medium pacer Kevin Gordon captured 5-22 and Tyrone Narine 3-23 for the winners.
At Devonshire Castle, Bartica got the better of Pomeroon by 32 runs. Bartica batted first and managed 153 all out in 26.1 overs. Yussuf Khan 34 and Kenzo Baksh 31 were their principal scorers as S. Ramdeen and T. Nelson took two wickets each for Pomeroon who were skittled out for 121 in 21.5 overs in reply. Anthony Persaud made 37 as experienced left arm spinner Robert Moore grabbed 4-20, Kevin Federicks 3-20 and Sherwin Murray 2-16.
At Affiance NO.1, Central overcame East Bank Essequibo by 71 runs. Former national U-19 batsman Yougeshwar Lall stroked 90 and got support from West Indies U-19 player Ronsford Beaton 32 and Latchman Rohit 26 as Central who took first strike made 221 all out in 39.3 overs. Pacer Trevor Benn and Javid Shafiq picked up three wickets each. East Bank Essequibo in response scored 150 all out in 28 overs. National U-19 player Kevon Boodie hit 51 while Pernell London made 36. Left arm spinner Herry Green snared 5-30 for the victors.
