– NSC must give permission to release
The Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG) has named a preliminary Inter-Guiana Games (IGG) team following its trials two weekends ago at the Police Sports Club Ground, but there are two issues preventing the release of the national junior athletics team.
A senior AAG official, who will remain nameless, told Kaieteur Sport last evening that the teams that will compete in the 2011 IGG in Suriname was named last week, but there are some changes that must occur within the squads owed to an oversight.
The official said that some clarifications must arise to bring the team in line with the requisite 13 male and 13 female athletes for the tour. According to the senior official, the selection committee for the AAG has to revisit the preliminary list to make a final selection.
It was noted that it is one of the issues that is preventing the release of the team. The official said that the other issue is the fact that the National Sports Commission (NSC) that directly manages what obtains at the IGG level, must give permission to release the team.
“This is one of the rules we are working with. We’ve got to get permission from them (National Sports Commission) before we release the team,” the official indicated. Kaieteur Sport has since learnt that Mark Scott will either manage or coach the team.
