Dear Editor,
I write in response to a letter captioned “ Please publish in the interest of Cricket Development”, published in the Sept. 4th edition of the Kaieteur News and subsequently in the Sept. 5th edition of other dailies. This letter was purportedly signed by members of various clubs in the West Demerara Cricket Association.
I have been a member of the competitions committee of the Guyana Cricket Board for Thirty Four (34) years and have never heard of clubs such as Vreed- en- Hoop and TSC. Checks with the WDCA Competitions Chairman Mr. Lalta Digamber (who co- signs this response) did not only reveal that these are phantom clubs but also that none of the signatories to that correspondence even exist much less being affiliated to a club.
I and Mr. Digamber spoke to the presidents of Good Intent, La Grange and Meten – Meer- Zorg Cricket Clubs and Mr. Hassan, Robin or Mr. Troy Khan do not have a clue who these impostors are or from where they suddenly appear.
Of course, I did not bother to continue my investigation since it seems that this is coming from well oiled propaganda machinery. It is not often that you can get a letter published in the Guyana Chronicle.
As for the content of that phantom release, I am aware that neither Mr. Alli nor Sanasie needs to explain anything for this has been the Modus Operandi of those that are lazy and wants power through the back door. Mr. Chetram Singh never played first class cricket but managed the affairs of the GCB for two decades.
I have never seen Mr. Sanasie’s name on a court document as a plaintiff but Bissoondyal Singh and Claude Raphael can be seen on many. In fact, Bissondyal Singh, sometimes boast of being a lawyer considering the amount of pending court cases he has at the moment.
Mr. Alli is a successful CEO of a prospering manufacturing entity and holds several executive positions on many reputable organisations such as the Book Foundation and the Scouts Association.
He may have won the support of Mr. Sanasie because that gentleman realised that Alli was the only one capable of managing the affairs of the Guyana Cricket Board.
Mr. Anand Sanasie record as an administrator in West Demerara can speak for itself. Distribution of cricket gears, construction of a 2.3 Million Dollars media centre, sight screen and press box at Wales, free cricket balls for all tournaments managed by WDCA since 2006, Upper and Lower League WDCA Competitions. Cricket at all age group level continues to improve when compared to the rich and well established clubs in Georgetown. West Demerara was the first association to rewrite its constitution in 2004 and include term limit to the presidency of that association.
The WDCA constitutionally conducts elections every two years in the month of April. Most recently, players from WDCA were selected to represent Guyana at the regional under 15 and under 19 tournaments.
This youngster’s ability as an administrator in Guyana and a director at the WICB is, without question, impressive. Never before did Guyana have the regional one day, under 19 and two international tournaments played locally in the same calendar year. I overheard, Mr. Clifford Reis himself commend Sanasie for this achievement.
Both of these gentlemen carried the torch, held high, regardless of the circumstances, during Chetram Singh’s tumultuous last term in office. We are satisfied that Mr. Alli has the ability to create a GCB that can take us places but he has to be firm and committed.
Colin Europe—Competitions Committee Chairman GCB
Lalta ‘Rishi’ Digamber—Competitions Committee Chairman WDCA
