The East Canje Lions club recently installed a new board of management at a simple installation ceremony held recently at the Rose Hall Estate Training Centre.
Those installed were President Madan Ramadhar; 1st Vice President, Rajesh Parsaram; 2nd Vice President, Diaram Singh; 3rd Vice President, Yadram Berai; Secretary, Samuel Jaipersaud, while Lowe Ghamandi will serve as Treasurer.
Membership Director will be Latchman Sookraj and Tail Twister is Brian Beepat.
Christendat Durga will serve as the Tamer.
The Immediate Past President is Devin Sookraj, while Committee Members are Ashwin Sookraj, Seetaram, Morris Sookraj and Lalman.
The East Canje Lions Club was formed in 1978. To date it has some18 members and has its headquarters at Adelphi Village, East Canje, Berbice, where it recently opened a new den.
The club during, the year, undertook a number of community projects throughout the Canje area. They also presented a number of Wheelchairs to persons with various disabilities in the Canje and New Amsterdam areas.
Past President Businessman Devin Sookraj stated that so far the club has also undertaken a number of major projects including the construction of the Adelphi Market and a number of bus sheds in the Canje area. The provision of spectacles was also done from time to time and this project will continue. He also thanked the members and the wider community for their support during his tenure.
New President, Retired Schoolteacher Madan Ramadhar thanked the members for electing him and stated that the club will continue with a number of community projects.
The members were installed by founding member, Charter Lion Rhyle Sookraj, who has more than 35 years service as a Lions clubs member. He was first a member of the New Amsterdam Lions club before moving to help form the East Canje Lions club.
